MJ’s Lawn Tips – Mowing Frequency
Ideally, no more than 1/3 of the grass blade should be removed during mowing. For example, a lawn mowed at 2” should not be allowed to grow taller than 3”. Removing too much of the grass blade can damage the plant and make it susceptible to disease and damaging insects in the Virginia Beach and Chesapeake areas.
Mowing once per week is our recommendation for the majority of the growing season. Early spring and late fall can be extended to once every two weeks (weather dependant) unless a significant amount of leaves and debris accumulate after one week.
